Mastering Typography for the Web

Essential typography principles every web designer should know.

Mastering Typography for the Web

Typography is the backbone of web design. Good typography enhances readability, establishes hierarchy, and communicates brand personality—all without the reader consciously noticing.

Choosing Typefaces

Limit yourself to two typefaces maximum. One for headings, one for body text. Ensure they complement each other—usually pairing a serif with a sans-serif works well.

The Details Matter

Line height, letter spacing, and line length all affect readability. For body text, aim for 45-75 characters per line and a line height of 1.5-1.6. These small details make a significant difference in user experience.
